TOP 5 Shredders for the Office

It may seem that in the digital age, paper documentation is created infrequently and on a limited scale. However, the continued sales of printers and toners suggest otherwise. Many people still prefer working with physical documents. In some industries and for various transactions, this form is also a legal requirement. Not all papers can be casually tossed into the trash – some of them will require a shredder.

Office Shredders – Why Are They Needed?
Data protection has a relatively short history in Poland, but the legal regulations that have been introduced are very strict, and their compliance is regularly verified by the authorized bodies. All documents containing personal or confidential data of clients, patients, or others must be carefully destroyed before being disposed of – in a manner that completely prevents their reconstruction, even if unauthorized persons gain access to the shredded pieces.

The need to destroy documents also often stems from company policy – offers, client meeting notes, or records of internal meetings should not end up with competitors or in the media. As a result, most businesses choose to purchase a shredder.

The German industrial standard DIN 66399, in effect for over a decade and adopted in most European countries, allows for the classification of shredders based on the guaranteed level of security they provide. According to the standard, there are 7 levels of security for paper (from P-1 to P-7) and corresponding classes for other media (such as CDs and DVDs, credit cards, hard drives, USB drives, SSD and chip cards, and microfilms). The higher the standard, the greater the confidentiality of the destroyed documentation that the device ensures. Criteria include the width of the resulting strips or the size of the particle, as well as the elimination or damage to digital media.

What to Consider When Choosing an Office Shredder?
Before deciding to purchase a shredder, it is worth understanding which parameters are critical for its operation and what elements should be considered. These include, first and foremost:

  • The number of people using the shredder: Devices intended for a one-person business and for large offices will differ significantly in parameters (primarily performance and work speed).
  • The volume of documents to be shredded at once: The specifics of the industry and company determine how many documents will need to be shredded. Type of Documents to Be Shredded:
It’s important to consider what will most frequently be fed into the shredder – paper, CDs, or perhaps memory cards? When it comes to paper, you should also account for its weight. A standard A4 sheet weighs 80 g, but folders or product brochures might exceed 150 g.
  • Level of Confidentiality of the Shredded Documents:
For work notes, precise shredding may not be as necessary as it would be for sensitive documents such as medical records. For less important documents, there is also a lower risk of someone taking the time to gather the scraps and attempt to reconstruct the information.
  • Bin Capacity:
This may seem like an insignificant element, but if you’re shredding a lot of paper, a larger bin will prove really useful, saving you from constantly running to the trash can.
  • Noise Level of the Device:
The noise level generated by the shredder is extremely important. It’s generally accepted that the maximum acceptable noise level is 70 dB, though we recommend opting for much quieter models.

What Shredder to Choose for the Office?

Verotech is a Polish brand of high-quality office equipment. The company has been around for nearly 10 years, but its roots go much deeper. The experience gained from years of cooperation with international partners, combined with the aspirations and ambitions of the owners and employees, enables the delivery of functional office equipment that meets the highest standards, including shredders, laminators, and binders.

The Verotech VS-120AF cross-cut shredder stands out with its modern automatic feeder, which minimizes user actions. Simply place the documents in the feeder, and the machine will do the rest. The feeder can hold up to 120 sheets of paper at once. The device is reliable and durable, preventing jams and paper pulls, thanks to the automatic staple removal system. In manual mode, the shredder can handle up to 12 sheets at a time.

The shredder operates exceptionally quietly – below 55 dB. It does not disturb office workers, even when placed in a small room and used intensively. It can run continuously for up to 60 minutes without overheating. The shred size of 4 x 12 mm complies with GDPR recommendations. Additional advantages include a large 21-liter waste bin and a system of LED lights that signal important information to the user.
